My recent trip to the wine store had me looking to experiment with a new wine. I was in the mood for a Cabernet Sauvignon from California. At the same time I wasn’t looking to put a big hole in my pocket so I looked in the $10 range. That leaves most Cabernets from Napa Valley out of the picture. When I left the store I had a bottle of Dancing Bull Cabernet Sauvignon (Fruit comes mostly from Sonoma County and Central Coast according to the vintner). This winemaker is most known for their Zinfandel. I found Dancing Bull Cabernet Sauvignon to be a simple straight forward Cabernet that is on the lighter side (not one for those seeking a fruit bomb in the mouth). An easy to drink Cabernet Sauvignon all said. The aroma the wine present is pleasant and of berries.
Here’s what the winemaker says: “Our Cabernet Sauvignon is rich with black cherry and blackberry flavors, firm tannins and a hint of mocha..” The black cherry and blackberry flavors are there, the mocha a little tough to detect. The tannins are not overbearing, an easy Cabernet wine to drink.
Wine Spectator rated it at 86 points and other ratings I saw around the internet were close in this vicinity. I agree with this rating. Its a solid choice that isn’t the best I’ve had but worthy of purchasing again especially at its price point.
